For the renovation of Glasgow’s first high-rise development, originally built in 1953, we used our technologically-advanced external wall insulation system with a render and clay slip finish.
Currently housing over 1,000 residents, Moss Heights in Glasgow needed to be renovated having been first built back in 1953. The main contractor, ISG, carried out the over-cladding of the 219 properties, contained within the three 10-storey blocks of flats. Block B itself was 486ft long.
The goal was to enhance the energy performance of Moss Heights by using our Ecomin external wall insulation system with a mineral core. Ecomin 300 is a thick coat mineral wool rendered façade system, which is faced with brick slips or ceramic tiles, offering a greater degree of impact resistance. It has a great high impact resistance, excellent weathering and durability, and increased fire resistance and reaction to fire.
The aesthetic appearance of the façades was also greatly improved with a new render and clay slip finish. The brick slips applied at ground level provide impact resistance and create interest to the structure. Curtain walling has been installed across the open balcony areas to provide residents with two new sunrooms, creating additional weatherproof space within each flat. The general surrounding area to the blocks was also upgraded with new fencing, floodlights and security measures, improving the wider community and environment.
