For one of London’s most notable shopping
centres, only the best materials could be used in
this build. Not only did it need to have a striking
appearance, but it needed to weather all kinds of
seasons and environments.
alsecco Airtec natural stone ventilated rain-screen cavity system
was used for the largest urban shopping centre in Europe – Westfield
Stratford City. At 1.9 million square feet, it was one of the largest
projects we have worked on at alsecco.
The Airtec stone system was specified by Westfield’s own architects
for use on part of the store façades on the external shopping malls.
A Crème Royal limestone finish was chosen which gives the building
exteriors a sophisticated and modern look. Different materials and
finishes were specified for other areas within this first-class retail
landscape.
We were delighted the Airtec stone system was specified for such a prestigious landmark project. The system is up to 60% lighter than solid stone systems, yet any stone can be used. The Portland Stone used here is exactly as designed.
Airtec stone ventilated rain-screen cladding is up to 65%
lighter than using solid stone panels. The system is a
successful combination of lightweight aerated clay concrete
with the proven qualities of natural stone to create a product
that fuses technology and history to deliver the ultimate
in performance and appearance. It is thermally-efficient,
enabling large buildings such as Westfield Stratford City to
perform better and keep running costs down. It also helps
them to achieve more sustainability targets.
