Thanks to its lightweight and high-quality
properties, Airtec stone was the ideal choice
for this prestigious scheme in an iconic area of
Southampton City Centre.
alsecco Airtec natural stone façade system was specified by
architects Capita Symonds for the prestigious Southampton Regional
Business Centre project.
The Airtec Stone system with a natural Portland Stone finish was
chosen for this significant development in the heart of Southampton‘s
city centre. The building, whilst requiring a modern feel, also needed
to maintain the character and appearance of the Guildhall setting.
The majority of the buildings in the area are of Portland Stone
and the Airtec system could offer an exact match to fit in with the
existing surroundings.
The high-quality stone produced a striking finish exactly as we had envisaged, which matched the local area and was in keeping with the heritage of the site.
The 5200m2 building envelope was completed using Airtec
natural stone, installed to the side and rear elevations. Airtec
stone is unique in that it opens up scope for architects and
designers since the technical and structural constraints
affecting natural stone are eliminated because of its lightweight.
The centre also aimed to achieve a BREEAM
excellent rating, using A Grade materials throughout. Airtec
stone aided with this thanks to its thermally-efficient,
weatherproof and fire-safe properties.
